How do I connect my own domain?
Summary
Every ShopIQ website starts on a temporary ShopIQ development URL while it is being built. Once the website is published, it receives a production ShopIQ domain. Merchants can then connect their own custom domain using simple DNS records.
Who this is for: Merchants who want to use their own domain instead of the default ShopIQ URL.
How does the website URL work?
During development, every website receives a temporary development URL such as https://wl7wado2v1od.dev.shopiq.app. This development website remains active while the merchant or Implementation Partner is building and testing the website.
Why is the development website different?
Development websites run on development infrastructure. To optimize resources, the development server automatically sleeps after approximately 15 minutes of inactivity. This only affects unpublished development websites. Once someone visits the website again, it starts automatically.
What happens after I publish?
When the website is published, ShopIQ automatically creates a production website such as https://wl7wado2v1od.shopiq.app. Unlike the development website, the production website runs on production infrastructure and does not sleep after inactivity. It is intended for live customer traffic.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. Merchants can connect their own custom domain from the Settings section. Examples include www.mybrand.com or shop.mybrand.com.
How do I connect my domain?
ShopIQ uses standard DNS configuration. Typically, merchants need to configure an A Record and a CNAME Record. The exact values are shown inside the domain settings. After DNS propagation, the custom domain becomes the primary website address.
Does ShopIQ provide domains?
No. The merchant purchases the domain separately from a domain registrar. The merchant remains the owner of the domain.
Can an Implementation Partner connect my domain?
Yes. Implementation Partners can help merchants connect domains during setup. The merchant should retain ownership of the domain account.
Does changing my domain consume AI credits?
No. Domain mapping, DNS configuration, and publishing do not consume AI credits.
Always publish the website before connecting your production domain. Keep ownership of your domain registrar account, even if an agency or partner helps with setup.
